allow us to explain our absence. see, two of us (dave and jessi- you know, the ones who are married… to each other) had a baby, and she’s REAL cute, and real demanding of our time. and two of us (andrea and filip) just joined up with the collective (yea!!) and are figuring everything out. we promise, between the four of us, we have lots to show you- awesome weddings, fun family shoots, ridiculously good looking people who just got engaged- and it will come… soon. but for now, enjoy some shots of the newest little member of the collective. and dare i say, the cutest, too. :)

since my husband tends to use this blog to brag on me at times… it’s my turn. while i’ve been recovering from my marathon labor, dave has been my knight in shining armor. he’s cooked, brought me food, cleaned the house, kept my water jug full, done the laundry (even though we have some pink towels now…), changed hazel in the middle of the night, gotten peed on, encouraged me, loved me, and pretty much been the most amazing man on the face of the planet. last night as i was getting into bed after a long day of snuggling, feeding, changing, soothing, etc, i couldn’t help but grab the camera and capture what i saw- a daddy, totally in love with his little girl, cuddling up before saying good night.
dave is pretty much super dad. and hazel has him right around her tiny, chubby fingers.

Jessi is the strongest woman I have ever met, and words will fail me in trying to type about what happened today. Just know that Jessi went into labor at 41 weeks on Sunday night; Hazel was born on Thursday morning after 7 hours of pushing.
This is what I’ve learned:
Jessi is amazing.
God forces you through hell to access his greatest creations.
Hazel is a 7 pound 12 ounce, 22 inch, perfect little bugger… and she’s ours.

I met Michelle and her family five years ago in Louisiana. We were all hammering nails into the flooded homes after Hurricane Katrina. As I recall that trip, and recall taking her pictures last week, there is only one word I can think to describe her: confidence. She carries a self-awareness older than her age, a sure head on sure shoulders. You can see in the images, as people who are comfortable with themselves are easy to photograph.
Here she is, sure footed and graduating.

Hilary reminds me of a little girl with an oversized lollypop, one of that is coiled red, blue, and green. She is colorful and sweet and her eyes are delighted by the simplest things. She and Alan seem to wake up with a daily reminder to experience life as if for the first time. They are charming and delightful and have genuine awe in their laughter. Here is a Saturday afternoon that we experienced with them.

Shannon and I went to middle school together, and if my memory is accurate I believe we were both bats in eighth grade. And Nate too, we all went to high school together. Though we never crossed paths then, it’s no surprise that we do now, this world is a bizarre place. We have all since moved away to seek out hiking trails and canoes and bonfires. We all have read and studied and explored. I moved back and met Jessi at a wedding, they moved back shortly after and reconnected in some crappy bar.
The world’s cycles fascinate me, sometimes it seems to move in such haphazard fashion, but other times trails cross at the most opportune time. This is one such story: Shannon and Nate, marrying next year.

this is sam. he’s graduating in may. don’t let the tough look fool you. sam may be able to break you in half, but he also has a very quite, gentle spirit. we loved spending the afternoon with him and hearing about his plans for the future and his love for math since he had such an awesome math teacher his sophomore year… yeah, it was me! (he he he!)
